Reflexology

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Reflexology?

Areas of the feet and hands are approximate to the body’s anatomy.

Reflexology is the practice of applying appropriate pressure to the feet and hands utilizing specific thumb, finger and hand techniques.  Pressure is applied to the feet based on a system of zones and reflex areas that reflect an image of the body.  This guided massage effects a physical change in the coordinating parts of the body.

What are the benefits to Reflexology?

  • Stimulated Nerve Function
By stimulating more than 7,000 nerves in the feet, hands, and ears, reflexology encourages the opening and clearing of neural pathways.  Refelxology also helps to interrupt pain pathways and reduces pain.
  • Improved Circulation
Blood needs to be able to flow freely throughout one’s body, carrying nutrients and oxygen to all of the cells. It also removes the waste products of metabolism and other toxins in the system. Reflexology allows the vessels to conduct the flow of blood freely and naturally by reducing the stress levels and tension in the body.
  • Improved Immune System
Reflexology stimulates the lymphatic system thus reducing risk of infection. It cleanses the body of toxins and impurities and also stimulates the production of endorphins, leading to an improved immune system and sense of well-being.
  • Increased Energy
Reflexology reinvigorates the entire body by relaxing and then opening up energy pathways.

Is it painful?

Reflexology is a completely enjoyable process, with pressure applied in the same fashion of massage.  Reflexology is safe for the elderly and pregnant.  People with sprains or open-wounds on their feet, or who experience blood clots, along with other conditions will want to wait until completely healed before having a reflexology treatment.  Please consult your doctor prior to booking an appointment to make sure Reflexology is safe for you.  Here’s a wonderful resource for more information on the  safety of reflexology.
